Blood Test For Pregnancy: Levels, Duration, Accuracy
Free blood pregnancy test is standard and conducted by all women, who wish to find out whether they are pregnant or not. Unlike urine pregnancy tests, blood ones have many advantages. They can detect a pregnancy much earlier than urine tests (7-12 days) and can measure hCG concentration in blood, but they require more time to get reliable results.
There are two blood test for pregnancy levels:
- qualitative test;
- quantitative test.
Qualitative tests give an exact answer yes/no. They can rather quickly define whether a woman is pregnant, but they do not show for how long she is pregnant. That can be defined only by the testing of hCG presence in the blood.
Such presence is defined by quantitative tests. They find out the amount of hormone in the blood and are considered to be 99% accurate. Such tests detect even the smallest amounts of hCG and can define pregnancy before 7 days of the missed period.
Blood testing for pregnancy is now chosen by majority of women worldwide thanks to its accuracy and reliability. The only possible drawback is the fact that, unlike in cases with urine pregnancy tests, a woman cannot do the test herself, but should consult her doctor.
